Title: Assistant Exhibit Supervisor (Aquatic Exhibits)

Employment Status: Exempt

Reports to: Manager of Marine Operations

Job purpose: 
The Assistant Exhibit Supervisor shares the responsibility for helping our organization to develop and operate successful interactive animal exhibits.  The goals of such programs are to increase the value of the guests’ experience, further our customers’ zoological mission and do so in a fiscally viable manner.

As an Assistant Exhibit Supervisor you have direct interaction with the Exhibit Supervisor, guests and the leadership of the host institutions. Living Exhibits personnel serve as the point of contact for customer relations and customer satisfaction. It is imperative that all duties are performed in a consistent, accurate, informative and entertaining manner. This position should be fun for you and the guests.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in zoology, animal husbandry, a related field or equivalent experience;
  2. One year practical experience in the care and interpretation of animals; zoo and aquarium animal related experience a plus;
  3. Basic knowledge of the animals featured in our exhibits, their care and general ocean conservation issues;
  4. Basic understanding of animal training using positive reinforcement ;
  5. Must be comfortable speaking to and interacting with guests, the media, and employees and volunteers of the host institutions;
  6. Basic computer knowledge including E-mail, Word and Excel;
  7. Able to perform physical tasks including occasional lifting of moderate to heavy loads (up to 60 lbs), climbing of ladders and ability to work in elevated conditions.                       

Responsibilities:

  1. Communicate and cooperate fully with all members of the Living Exhibits team, all host institution personnel and volunteers, guests and any others that come into contact as a result of Living Exhibits operations;
  2. Assist the Exhibit Supervisor in upkeep and maintenance of department facilities and equipment in a professional manner;
  3. Assist the Exhibit Supervisor in performing daily animal husbandry including, but not limited to:
    • Cleaning and maintenance of animal exhibits;
    • Preparation of food and feeding of animals;
    • Observation of animals for injuries, disease and behavioral changes;
    • Assist with the care and medical treatment of injured or sick animals;
    • Maintain records for feeding, health care, facility and life support operation;
    • Maintain a clean and orderly work area;
    • Operate and maintain life support equipment;
  4. As an aid to the Exhibit Supervisor, serve as liaison with host facility personnel promoting a productive relationship, problem solving and ensuring good customer satisfaction;
  5. Interact with guests, including discussing the exhibit, the animals, specific conservation issues and answering questions;
  6. Completion of projects and other duties as assigned;
  7. Assume responsibilities of the Exhibit Supervisor during their absence;

Living Exhibits produces and manages interactive animal exhibits throughout North America. Employment with Living Exhibits is generally seasonal in nature with some full-time staff positions available.

TITLE: EXHIBIT SUPERVISOR (SEASONAL)
           
Living Exhibits has opportunities for seasonal exhibit supervisors at their interactive stingray exhibits at several facilities

As an Exhibit Supervisor you have direct supervision of all aspects of operation of the exhibit, including animal care and health, life support equipment operation as well as interaction with guests and the leadership of host institutions. Living Exhibits personnel serve as the point of contact for customer relations and customer satisfaction. It is imperative that all duties are performed in a consistent, accurate, informative and entertaining manner. The Exhibit Supervisor reports to the Vice President/Animal Services.

Requirements:

  1. Must be able to commit to a minimum of 40 hours per week  (including weekends) during spring, summer and fall
  2. Must be able to commit to up to 4 weeks of training at another facility in the spring.
  3. Must be able to work in and around saltwater, handle fish and crustaceans and lift at least 60 pounds.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in zoology, animal husbandry, related field or equivalent experience preferred;
  2. Two years practical experience in the care and interpretation of non-domestic animal species preferred;
  3. Zoo and aquarium animal related experience a plus;
  4. Animal training experience a plus;
  5. Must be comfortable speaking to and interacting with guests, employees and volunteers of host institutions and representatives of the media;
  6. Experience in a service oriented position a plus;
  7. Basic computer knowledge;
  8. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  9. Must be detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills, be able to set priorities and complete multiple tasks simultaneously;
  10. Able to perform physical tasks including occasional lifting of moderate to heavy loads, climbing of ladders and ability to work in elevated conditions;
  11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  12. Strong problem solving ability.
